Concept and script development by Denise Bombardier. The documentary Adieu mes soeurs aims to be a work of remembrance. In 1970 there were 50,000 of these nuns. Today, their numbers have dwindled to slightly below 20,000. Their average age is 71. And they are dying off at a pace of about one a day. Ms. Bombardier gathered the first-person accounts of these women—women who worked in education, social work and hospital care—on what they are experiencing today and on the future that awaits them in a society in which they are fast becoming an endangered species. An auteur’s documentary and impressionistic portrait seen through the eyes of the film’s narrator.
