LUC WISEMAN, PRESIDENT

Having earned a degree in communications from The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Luc Wiseman always worked in television, starting out in 1975 as a director/camera-operator and continuing in the years that followed as an editor, assistant director, production director and, finally, general manager of JPL Productions.

In 1984, he founded his own company, where he produced many advertisements and corporate documentaries. He also put his talent to work for the Just for Laughs festival, producing shows to be shown in Canada and abroad. From 1984 to 1990, he worked on dozens of variety shows featuring such artists as Céline Dion, Gilles Vigneault, Félix Leclerc, Claude Dubois, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Diane Dufresne, Ginette Reno, Charles Trenet, Charles Aznavour, Léo Ferré, Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin and Cabrel.

In 1990, he became a shareholder in Avanti Ciné Vidéo, the agency behind Les Détecteurs de mensonges, major variety acts like Roch Voisine, André-Philippe Gagnon, Stéphane Rousseau, Jean Lapointe and Lara Fabian, the dramatic series Montréal Ville ouverte and Cher Olivier, and let’s not forget the sitcoms La Petite Vie, Un gars, une fille, Catherine and Moi et l’autre. Sole proprietor of the company since 2000, he has carried on the company’s tradition of quality while bringing new energy and innovation with such hits as Willie, 3 x rien, Smash, Casino, Tout le monde en parle and Les Étoiles filantes. In 2004, he set up a department devoted to producing stage productions, thus broadening the cultural offerings of the company and its president.

Through business partnerships, he also takes part in producing original works in a variety of forms, here and abroad. Since 1998, he has been a shareholder in Kutoka, producer of edutainment CD-ROMs, which include Mia the mouse, who has been showered with prizes all over the world. Since 2004, he has also been involved in the work of Sardine Productions, a production house specializing in animation whose first series, My Goldfish is Evil / Mon PoiSon Rouge, is now being aired on CBC and Radio-Canada TV.

He is actively involved in every sphere of the cultural industry through participation in associations and organizations, such as the governing board of l’ Association des producteurs de films et de télévision du Québec (APFTQ) where he serves as secretary-treasurer and La Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), where he is a member of the Commission du disque, du spectacle et de la variété.
